Miller, Lawrence N.Lawrence (Larry) N. Miller beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital while battling a blood disorder on Wednesday, November 23rd . Larry was born on October 20, 1936 in the Bronx, NY. Larry lived in the shadows of Yankee Stadium but grew up a NY Giants fan especially when his favorite player, Willie Mays, joined the team in 1951. Larry played stickball on the streets of the Bronx and his love for baseball carried him throughout his life. He was an avid fan and season ticket holder for the NY Football Giants. He also loved the UCONN Huskies men's and women's basketball teams. Larry married Barbara Saltzman of Paterson, NJ in 1963 and came to Stamford in 1966. His involvement in the Stamford community started right away as he became a member of the Agudath Shalom Synagogue and helped found the 6:30 a.m. minyan; a close knit group of men who prayed every day before going to work. His involvement in the Stamford Jewish community was legendary and he continued to serve the Agudath Shalom and JCC communities throughout his adult life. Organizations he was also involved in over the years were Stamford Softball Umpires Association, Miss Softball America, Stamford American Little League, District One Little League, Stamford Senior Men's Association, Stamford Old Timers Association, Agudath Shalom Chorale and Bingo.In 2004, the Stamford American Little League humbly honored Larry by naming the Kane Avenue field in his honor.In 2005, Larry was honored by the Fairfield County Sports Commission with its first ever City of Stamford recipient.In 2010, Larry was honored by the Stamford Old Timers as one of their local honorees.Larry worked for Norden Systems (and its various precursors) for over 30 years and then worked for his friend at Carlon Construction in Stamford. Larry stayed active with the Norden Systems group as treasurer of the Norden Retirees club.Larry was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Sylvia Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara, his beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Karen of Weston, Jeffrey and Kelley of Trumbull and Russell and Catherine of Norwalk, his five adored grandchildren, Daniel, David, Marissa, Rachel and Tyler, his sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Dr. Andrew Rabinowitz from Westport and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral is being held at Congregation Agudath Sholom 301 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford on Friday, November 25th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Agudath Sholom Cemetery.
