Smoot, LawrenceLawrence "Dick" R. Smoot, age 80 of Gillett, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Lawrence was born on February 24, 1936 to the late Edgar Smoot and Sophie Patz in Oconto County. Lawrence married Karen Janke on October 10, 1961 in Waukegan, IL. He worked as a truck driver for over forty years, before working for Seneca Foods in Gillett for eight years driving a bean picker. Lawrence served in France during the Korean War in the United States Army.Lawrence is survived by his 4 children, Richard (Tammy) Tulogeski of Abrams, Robin (Gene) Peterson of Oconto Falls, Jodie Birr of Suring and Larry (Arthur) Smoot of Peterborough, Ontario; a sister, Darlene Peterson of Kenosha; special sisters-in-law, Marge Smoot of Minnesota and Janice Klink of Florida; a brother-in-law, Jess (Kay) Janke of Heartland; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; brothers, Rodney, Robert, Donald, and Leonard Smoot; great-grandson, Angelo.A gathering of family and friends will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 9 AM until the memorial service at 11 AM with Pastor Bill Kamke officiating. Lawrence will be interred in Hickory Cemetery next to his wife. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
