Lela Delores Johnson passed away on July 20, 2012. Lela was born on Sept. 10, 1922 to Edwin and Inga Peterson. She was one of eight children, and Lela often reminisced about growing up on the farm in Vang, North Dakota. Lela and Sidney Johnson were married on Sept. 24, 1947. They moved to Kittitas, WA in 1959 with their two sons, Forrest and Neil Johnson. Lela worked as a telephone operator in ND, and for the Kittitas Valley Community Hospital in Ellensburg. Lela and her family joined the First Lutheran Church in Ellensburg in 1959, and she remained a lifelong church member. Lela often helped with social functions at church, and she enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation. Lela was an active member of the church's quilting group, and she took pleasure in sewing many beautiful quilts for charity. Lela also enjoyed reading, painting, gardening and taking pictures.Throughout her life, Lela cherished her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Johnson, and her son, Neil Johnson. Lela is survived by her son, Forrest (Mary) Johnson of Yakima, and her grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew and Julia Johnson; and Michelle (Ricky) Tarusan, and their children, Kailani and Kaden. Lela is survived by one sister, Bernice (Ever) Hanson of Oberon, ND. Lela is survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 512 N. Ruby, Ellensburg, on Saturday July 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Lela's honor can be made to Second Harvest or the . Steward & Williams Tribute Center is in care of arrangements.
