Lela M. JohnsonJune 23, 1924 - May 29, 2016Lela Maxine Seeger Johnson, 91, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away on May 30, 2016. She was born on June 23, 1924, in Simla, Colorado. Lela was the youngest child of Albert Lee Seeger and Mina Francis Hensley. Her parents sold their farm and home in Eastern Colorado prior to the Great Dust Bowl. The family set out for Yakima, Washington, but stopped to visit friends in Nampa. They ended up staying and renting a farm in the Midway area. Lela attended her early years of school in Eastern Colorado. She was the only student her age, thus completing first and second grade in one year. She went on to become the valedictorian of her 8th grade class at Midway School in Nampa, Idaho.Lela married the love of her life, Wayne D. Johnson, on October 17, 1939, in Moscow, Idaho. They spent 76 Years together, which they were greatly admired for by all their family. Lela and Wayne spent their early years in Moscow while Wayne attended University of Idaho. During this time, their children Anita and Alan were born. They returned to Nampa in 1944 after Wayne was drafted. Their daughter, Kay was born after the war in 1947.Lela was always very good with figures and money. She used these skills working as a bookkeeper at J. C. Penney and other local stores. She continued her interest in the financial world as an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal and educating herself about financial planning and investing.Lela loved to travel! She was able to travel to 49 states, 5 continents, and cruise through the Panama Canal. After Wayne's retirement, they enjoyed winters in Arizona and Mexico and summer camping with friends in the Good Sam Club.Lela will be remembered for her uncanny memory for details. She also made the best potato salad, painted beautiful ceramic nativity sets, dedicated involvement with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and being a "night owl."Lela was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Karl and Albert, sisters Gladys, Edith, and Hilma, and daughter Kay Cox. Lela is survived by her husband, Wayne; daughter Anita (Larry) Laveroni of Belgrade, Montana; son Alan (Sharon) Johnson of Boise, Idaho; and son-in-law Al Cox of Bothell, Washington. Lela is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Karcher Estates Skilled Nursing and Auburn Crest Hospice for their kind and gentle care.A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Canyon Hill Cemetery, 2024 N. Illinois Avenue, Caldwell, Idaho.
