ALEXANDERLeland Roy died on Sunday, April 9th, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. He was born on August 3, 1941 in Portage WI to Sherman and Frances (Haskins) Alexander and spent his childhood years in Brooks, WI. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse with a BS in Chemistry and later graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati OH with a Master of Science in Chemistry. Leland was employed at the US Food & Drug Administration for his entire career and was initially stationed at the Minneapolis MN District Office. He later transferred to the Cincinnati OH District Office. He was as 50 year member of the American Chemistry Society. He is a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church where he met his wife, Melanie. He served as a Deacon and was active in the small group ministry. The Alexanders lived in Bright for almost 20 years and Leland was an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher. An avid gardener, he was one of the founders of the Bright Farmers Market. Survivors include his wife, Melanie (Renck) Alexander, children Mark (Rosemary) and Maria Lowry (Christopher). He is also survived by grandchildren Keith Lowry, Jennifer Durkin (Nicholas) and Kameron, Kassidy and Kennedy Alexander. Another grandchild, Kaitlin Alexander preceded him in death. Services will be held on Monday, April 17th at College Hill Presbyterian Church 5742 Hamilton Ave., 45224 with visitation from 12 - 1 and a service celebrating his life will follow at 1 pm. Reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at Gibson Cemetery in Bright Indiana at 4 pm with a meal to follow at Providence Presbyterian Church.
