ANGOLA — Lena Rose Cole, 96, died Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Lakeland Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Angola. Lena was born on Oct. 28, 1919, in rural Fremont to the late Homer and Zora H. (Dygert) Eatinger. She graduated from Scott Center High School. She attended St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, graduating in 1971 and receiving her Masters in Education in 1974. She began teaching at Hendry Park Elementary School in 1971-1976 teaching first grade and second grade from 1976-1985. She married Wayne Douglas Cole on Jan. 15, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Sept.23, 2000. Lena had been a lifelong resident of Scott Township. She was a member of North Scott Christian Church, where she played the organ and piano. She was also a member of the North Scott Ladies Aide, Tri Kappa Sorority, Angola Music Club and Retired Teachers Association of Indiana. Surviving are two sons, James L. Cole of Randleman, North Carolina and Charles D. Cole of Angola. Also surviving are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Galen and Ronald Eatinger and one sister, Irene Chard. Memorial Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West St., Angola. Pastor David Wilson of North Scott Christian Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to services. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home in Angola.
