Clinton — Leon Arthur Taft, 95, died Monday, February 11, 2019, at the Briarwood Health Center in Worcester following a brief illness.
Born in Swanzey, NH and raised there and Clinton MA, the son of Carl and Helene Pauline (Preston) Taft. In his early years, Mr.Taft would help sell milk for the family's business, Taft Milk. After graduating from High School in 1941, he then started work fulltime on the Quabbin Reservoir as a laborer, he had been employed parttime during school. He met his wife, Beatrice Lewis, at church and they were married in 1944. They went on to have four daughters. Mr. Taft also worked in Groton, CT at the underwater sound lab for 15 years as a sound tech.
Mr. Taft had a passion for animals and was the head dog trainer for Shrewsbury Dog Training Club. For years, he would enroll his award-winning German shepherds into dog shows, where he won numerous ribbons and awards.
An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Worcester Country Club, the Worcester Club, and the infamous Pinehurst Country Club
Family members include his loving wife of 57 years Beatrice who passed in 2001, His 2 surviving daughters Corrine Adams of Ringe NH and Dawn Sivert and her husband Perry of Clinton MA. He has multiple Grandchildren Trisha Marquees, Sara Houghton, Robert Adams, Mike Adams, Matthew Adams, Lynda Baird.
Leon was predeceased by his daughter Judy Town in 2003 from breast cancer. And also from Gloria Pops in 2018 from bone cancer.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 13th, 2019 from 4pm-6pm at the United Church of Clinton.
A funeral service was held February 16th at The United Church of Clinton, with private burial.
