Leonard Marks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on March 22, 2023, at the age of 74 in Loxley, Alabama. Born on September 2, 1948, in the city of Mobile, Alabama, he was the eldest child of Vernel Elizabeth and Levert Franklin Marks.
Leonard grew up in Mobile and attended B.C. Rain High School. He joined the Army in 1968 and fought in Vietnam until 1970 in the Combat Infantry division. After retiring from the Army, he joined the National Guard and served for 22 years.
After returning from Vietnam, Leonard met and ultimately married the love of his life, Linda. He worked at the Public Works for the City of Mobile for almost 24 years, retiring in 2009. After raising their children, Leonard and Linda finally decided to leave the city and move in 2003 to the little town of Loxley, AL, to pursue his lifelong dream of owning and living on a couple of acres in the country.
Leonard was a devoted family man and was known for his generosity and kind heart, always being someone his brothers and sisters could count on to help when needed.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Marks; his children, Kevin Marks, and Karen Rodriguez, ; his brother, Melvin Marks; ; and his two grandchildren, Jordan and Tallie.
Leonard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warmth, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten. The funeral service will be held at Hughes Funeral Home on April 7th, 2023, at Noon . A Military burial service will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Leonard's memory be made to Alabama Shriners. .
