Leonard F. Gahr, Jr.AGE: 75 • BrickLeonard "Larry" F. Gahr, Jr., 75, of Brick, NJ and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, February 19, 2017.Larry was born on July 30, 1941, in Newark, NJ. His family lived in Verona, moved to Manasquan and then to Point Pleasant when he was 12. He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1960.Larry was an entrepreneur at age 18 opening Gahr's Bay Avenue Esso on Bay Ave. & Rt. 88 in Point Pleasant, May of his senior year.After selling his business, Larry sold cars at Surf Chevrolet and he then become the youngest Chevy Sales Manager in the U.S.In 1973, Larry, his 1st wife and his best friends purchased Comstock Boat Works in Brick - a Full Service Marina for Sales, Service and Parts. His keen business sense and caring heart landed him some of the most loyal employees, wonderful customers and several of the most prestigious boat lines! He was the President and CFO until turning the business over to his children in 2004. Larry then retired, spending most of the year in Palm Beach Gardens playing golf.Larry was a past member of the Elks in Point Pleasant Beach and has hosted the Elks - Special Needs Children's boat ride day at Comstock since 1973. He was a founding member of the Marine Trades Association of NJ, a member of Manasquan River Golf Club for 25 years and of East Point Golf Club in Florida.Larry is predeceased by his father, Leonard F. Gahr, Sr., his mother, Charlotte Buddington-Gahr, his eldest brother, Ronald Gahr, and his brother, Richard Gahr.He leaves behind his wife Patricia, his son Leonard F. "Chip" Gahr, III and his wife Susan, his daughter Debbie Gahr, his stepson Donald Ditzel and his wife Jen, his grandchildren; Ashley, Hannah, Dane, Andrew, Jacob, Jeremy & Mallory, his sister in law Betsy, lots of nieces and nephews, friends and his sweet canine companion Kayla.There will be a Memorial Visitation, Friday, February 24, 2017, from 2 pm-6 pm at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, NJ.In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the Elks Summer Camp: Camp Moore, NJ State Elks, Handicapped Children's Committee, 665 Rahway Avenue, PO Box 1596, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.For condolences to the family, please visit
