Leonard Garcia, 51, passed away on Aug. 20, 2012, at the Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe following an illness. Leonard was born on May 13, 1961, in Albuquerque to the home of Ezequiel and Oma (Gerhardt) Garcia. While attending Santa Rosa Schools Leonard lived with his grandmother in Puerto De Luna. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1979.Leonard attended New Mexico State University where he obtained his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1988. He worked for his uncle Robert Gerhardt at Sierra Transit Mix for more than 18 years.Leonard loved anything to do with the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and playing golf.He is preceded in death by his brother, Steven Garcia, his grandparents, Eugenia and Jessie Gerhardt and Ezequiel and Victoriana Garcia. Survivors include his parents, Ezequiel and Oma Garcia of Albuquerque, his children, Jessica Garcia; Aimee Garcia and Gabriel Garcia and their mother Delia Garcia; his granddaughter, Emily Baca, all of Las Vegas; brothers, Gene Garcia of Santa Rosa and Danny Garcia and wife Mary of Salt Lake City, Utah; his sister, Victoria Dare of Broomfield, Colo. Also surviving are his uncles and aunts, Gilbert and Mary Gerhardt, Bob and Dolores Gerhardt, Nestor Garcia, Arsenio Garcia and Mike Garcia, Tircia Garcia and Isabel Anaya along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday from the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday from Our Lady of Refuge Church in Puerto De Luna, N.M., and burial followed at El Calvario Cemetery in Puerto De Luna.Serving as pallbearers were: Elmer Pacheco, Mark Montaño, Danny Garcia, Estevan Baca, David Baeza and Tony Moncayo. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Gabriel Garcia, David Joseph Baeza, Mike Dare, Gene Garcia, Pablo Baca, Eric Baca, Marcelino Ocana, Bobby Gerhardt and all his relatives and friends.All services were entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
