Leonard Joseph Deranleau, age 91, of Gold Bar (formerly of Ellensburg), passed away on September 3, 2012, at Valley General Hospital in Monroe.Leonard was born on February 23, 1921, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. He was raised in Ellensburg, graduating from Ellensburg High School in 1940. Leonard joined the US Army Air Corp in 1942, serving in combat during World War II. He was discharged after 3 years of service, during which he was held as a prisoner of war.Leonard married Amy Patterson of Ellensburg in 1946, and fathered 5 children. He owned the bowling alley in Ellensburg in the late 40s. In 1952, he moved to Issaquah where he was a residential brick and stone mason until the mid-80s. Leonard and Amy retired to Gold Bar where he enjoyed gardening and was active in the Seattle and Evergreen Chapters of American Ex-Prisoners of War and the Everett VFW. Survivors include his devoted wife Alma; children David Bodine of Boise, Idaho, Connie Clemmens of Portland, Oregon, Dean Deranleau of Auburn, Washington, and Jill Dahm of Billings, Montana; his sisters Daphne Hull and Ileen Schultz both of Pasco, Washington; and four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11am, Monday, September 10, 2012, at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E Sunset Way, Issaquah.
