Leonard M. IvisBooneLeonard Maurice Ivis, 93, of Aurora, CO died on April 9, 2017 at Belleview Heights Care Center.Leonard was born on October 30, 1923 in Boone, IA to John and Margaret (Short) Ivis. After his mother's death, his maternal grandparents John and Gertrude Short raised him and his three siblings. Leonard graduated from Gilbert Consolidated High School in 1942.In September of 1942, Leonard enlisted in the United States Navy. He served the majority of his time on the USS Philadelphia (CL 41). He was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Leonard served in the North African campaign, the European, Middle East and Mediterranean theaters. He was the recipient of several medals during his service. Upon leaving the Navy, Leonard enrolled and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois.On November 20, 1953 Leonard married the love of his life, Donna WoodyardBernholtz. After their marriage the couple made their home in Des Moines.Leonard spent the majority of his career employed by Baker Electric, Inc. Leonard retired as Executive Vice President of Estimating for the company. In addition, he taught Electrical Apprenticeship classes for 17 years. He enjoyed, fishing, camping, hunting, competitive shooting and traveling.His wife Donna Ivis, parents, John and Margaret Short, grandparents, John andGertrude Short, his sister, Peggy Nelson, brother Hugh Ed Ivis and his son-in-law Joseph Borgen, as well as other extended family members preceded Leonard in death.Left to celebrate Leonard's life are his sons David Ivis and wife Jeannie of Parker CO and Daniel Ivis of Boone, IA; his daughter Deborah Ivis Borgen of Bella Vista, AR and step children Gerald Bernholtz and wife Dianne of New Virginia, IA and Sheryl Renze and husband Gerald of Carroll, IA; 11 Grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren. His sister Patty Headley of Boone, IA, also survives him.A Mass of Christian Burial will be April 29, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart CatholicChurch in Boone Iowa. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone Iowa.Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family at
