Szachara, Leonard PaulLeonard Paul Szachara, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2016 at his home. He was born on September 18, 1939 in Johnson City, NY to the late Felix and Helen Szachara.Mr. Szachara was a graduate of Broome Tech Community College in Binghamton, NY and attended Villanova University. He served his country in the Army and National Guard. Leonard was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. For over 35 years he loved officiating baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball games.Mr. Szachara is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deloris; children, Gina Emerson (Brian), Phillip Szachara, Casey Briggs (Michael), Dan Szachara (fiancee' Sally Ferens), and Amy Milton; grandchildren, Davis, Collin and Lexi Emerson, Nick, Theodore and Alex Ferens, Lenni Szachara, Raja, Braylyn and Zakai Milton.In addition to his parents, Mr. Szachara is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Szachara.A memorial service will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 12th of December, 2016 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 13700 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
