Leroy Hampton "Roger" Underwood, 89, of Colonial Heights went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. He was born on May 20, 1927, on his parent's farm in Howard County, Md., to the late Charles Hampton Underwood and Hollis Catherin Moore Underwood, and was the widow of his beloved and cherished wife of 53 years, Grace Lee Underwood, who passed away in May of 2003, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles William Underwood. He had a deep faith in his Father God, and was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He faithfully spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ our God to others. Mr. Underwood was a WWII United States Army veteran, having served in Japan. Leroy was a retired Industrial Engineer from Allied Chemical and the City of Richmond Gas Utilities. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Petersburg Order of the Eastern Star. In his last thirteen years, he made friends wherever he went. He was loved by some of these as well as by his real family. He was known by Roger or Roy usually a good and faithful servant of God.He is survived by his loving daughters, Brenda Underwood Birckhead, Patricia Underwood Wallace; younger brother, Harry Lee Underwood; grandsons, Eric Justin Wallace, Ryan Heath Wallace, Scott Brandon Birckhead; great-grandchildren, Kayden Wallace, Zoe Wallace. He is also survived by his devoted friends, Laura and Gilbert MarroquinA funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Fred Adkins officiating. Interment will be private. His remains will rest at the funeral home on Friday, November 11, 2016.
