LeRoy SmithOctober 20, 1931 - July 29, 2016 LeRoy Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29, 2016, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Family and friends were at his side.LeRoy was born on October 30, 1931, in Modesto, California, to Raymond N. and Ruth O. Smith. He spent his early years in California and graduated from Reedley High School in Reedley, California, in 1949. LeRoy enlisted in the
Army on May 29, 1953, and spent two years of his three-year enlistment in the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper. After his discharge from the service, he resided and worked in Corvallis, Oregon, where he met and married his wife, Shirley, on May 18, 1957. They moved to Renton, Washington, where LeRoy worked for the Boeing Airplane Co. In 1960, LeRoy was hired on by the City of Renton as a
firefighter and spent the next 14 years as "Smitty" until he retired in 1974. He and his family moved from Renton to Sunnyside in the Yakima Valley. In 1992, he and his wife, Shirley began traveling between Washington and Arizona until they decided to settle in Yuma, Arizona, permanently. LeRoy was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He loved his family, friends and his church family, but most of all he loved his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.LeRoy is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Yuma, Arizona; son, Michael of Grandview, Washington; daughter, Cheryl of Simpsonville, South Carolina; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ruth; three brothers, Marvin, Elbert and Donald; and a son, Brian. Services will be held at Heritage Baptist Church, 11770 S Avenue B on Thursday, August 4th at 10AM. Burial will be in Washington State. Please sign the guestbook at
