Sister Liliana "Alice" BonelloJuly 25, 1936 - Oct. 1, 2017Gonzales, CAWe are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear sister in Christ, Lilian Bonello (81) who entered in the embrace of the Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 1, 2017, followed by a short battle with cancer. During her last moments on earth, she was surrounded by the sisters of her religious Community at Gonzales, Sisters of Charity of the Infant Mary.Sr. Liliana Bonello (Alice Bonello) was born on July 25, 1936 at Siggiewi, Malta, Europe, to the parents of the God fearing family of Emmanuel Bonello and Georgia Zammit. After graduating from the University of Oxford, London in Banking, she worked four years in the International Bank of London, England. She joined the congregation of the Sisters of Charity, of the Infant Mary on March 23, 1960, in Rome Italy. She made her first vows on May 9, 1963 and five years later, her final vows on May 9, 1968.During her tenure on earth, Sr. Liliana as the member of her religious family, served as the personal secretory for the superior General of the Sisters of Charity of the Infant Mary at the Generalate House at Milan, Italy for 9 years. At the same time she was also the Co- coordinator for the Religious Education for the Italian American children of the American Embassy.In 1975 she arrived as a missionary to California and continued her service in the field of Faith Formation for 42 long years, starting from Citrus Heights at Holy Family, at St. Theodore's Gonzales, at Cambria, Cayucos and at St. Joseph's Spreckles for 23 years. During these years she also served in the capacity of Defender of Marriage Tribunal of Monterey Diocese.She earned her bachelor's from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Masters in Spirituality from University of San Francisco, and Masters in Canon Law from Pontifical University at Angelicum, Rome. As a Master catechist she also enjoyed working with RCIA. Leading the bible study and serving as a Cursillista, Spiritual Director, and as an active member of Ladies of St. Theodore, Gonzales.Sr. Liliana will be remembered as a person of deep prayer and profound faith and humility, deep knowledge of spirituality, attentive listening, always caring for the good of others, and for her gentle-joyful presence. She was a person coupled with wit and wisdom by which she made everyone to relax and recoup energies. She was known for her whole hearted commitment and precision in her service from office table to kitchen. Her inner calmness flowed out to others in words of peace, consolation, encouragement, deeds of support and care. She is preceded by her parents and two siblings - Joseph and Lillian and survived by her brother Edwin Bonello, two sisters: Marianna Galea and Evelyn Bonello and her nephews and nieces; among whom Pierre Mallia with his wife is present among us.In lieu of Flowers, Donations in her name can be made to: "Sisters of Charity Mission Fund", P.
