WALLINGFORD - Lillian R. Gaetano, 88, of Wallingford, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016.She was born on July 10, 1928, in Wallingford, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose (Torello) Gaetano. She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and team captain of several sports. She was also an accomplished softball player in her day winning many championships with her team, the Owlettes. In the 60's and 70's she was part owner of the family business, Gaetano's Restaurant, on Quinnipiac St. and had worked as an office manager for Dichello Distributors for 47 years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and volunteered for many years at the annual bazaar as booth captain of the Apple Dart Booth. She enjoyed bowling, and planning bus trips for friends and family to New York City to Broadway plays and Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas and Easter shows. To Aunt Lil, the more the merrier. She loved to attend sporting events of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. For many years she took her large family on annual vacations to Myrtle Beach, Florida, and Maine among numerous other destinations and those times will always be treasured.She is survived by cousins; and several nieces and nephews; including great, and great-great-nieces and nephews; all of whom she cherished and treated like her own children. She will also be greatly missed by her Shih Tzu, Buddy, whom she loved so much. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Emil Gaetano; two sisters, Esther Gianinni and Margaret ""Peggy"" Tanch; and her dear friend, Jean Lincoln.Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. directly at Most Holy Trinity Church.
