Lillian Tumulty Lanman Lillian Tumulty Lanman, 95, a longtime resident of Hilton Head, died on Sunday, November 27, 2016, in the company of her family. Lillian was born on June 21, 1921, in Washington, D.C., of Irish immigrants, William and Katherine Tumulty, where she was raised with her two brothers and two sisters. Lillian attended the Academy of the Holy Cross and Dunbarton College before she was employed as a secretary by the federal government. During World War Il, she was actively involved in the USO, helping to boost morale among the troops preparing for active duty. On July 6, 1946, Lillian married Lewis H. Lanman (1918-2012), who was a longtime friend of her brother, Joe. Lillian and Lewis shared 66 years together, lovingly committed to one another and their six children. After marriage, Lillian turned her attention to raising their growing family in the D.C. area. They moved to Dover, DE, and after several years moved to Cincinnati, OH, where they remained until retiring to Hilton Head Island, which they had come to know and love after decades of family trips there. Lillian and Lewis shared 30 years together on the island, enjoying the natural beauty of the Low Country and visits by their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family, and friends. In her retirement, Lillian served as a volunteer at Hilton Head Elementary School, assisting children with their reading skills. Lillian is survived by her children Laura Keenan (Mike) of Hilton Head, Cecelia Lanman (Hal Hale) of Redway, CA, Kate LaGory (Kirk) of Downers Grove, IL, Charles Lanman (Tracy) of Cincinnati, OH, and Mary Jo Colebrook (Tom) of Fort Thomas, KY, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.
