Thompson, Linda Frances Linda F. Thompson, age 74, of Phoenix, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born on July 22, 1942 to the late Frank and Bernice (Grimm) Vincent in Detroit, MI. She attended Casa Grande Union High School, graduating as class valedictorian in 1960; then furthered her education at Oberlin College, Butler University, and Arizona State University, ultimately obtaining a PhD in Counseling Psychology. In August 1964 she married James E. Thompson in Casa Grande, AZ. Linda and James had two boys, Mark and Eric, and she spent her early married years seeing to their health and welfare. When they were safely launched, she returned to ASU for her PhD and became a member of the American Psychological Association. She had a fascination for the workings of the human psyche. Linda gave aid and direction in self-understanding and treatment to her many clients in government and NGO-supported facilities, as well as to her personal clients. Linda learned to sew in 4-H, and sewed for her family for many years, making everything from frilly dresses to wall hangings to stuffed dinosaurs. She learned her mother's recipes and enjoyed entertaining family and friends all of her days. She loved history and travel, and managed to visit many European countries before illness curtailed her activities. Reading also was a passion; we seldom saw her at leisure without a book in her hand. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, James; her sons, Mark (Sara Spachman) and Eric (Robin Lynn); sister, Nancy Archibald; grandchildren, Frank, Kyle, Audrey, Julia, and Amelia; and many other loving family and friends. A celebration of her life is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Linda's honor to the ICAN - International Cancer Advocacy Network at askican.org.
