Linda S. DiehlAge: 68 • StauntonLinda Darlene (Simmons) Diehl, age 68, began her eternal life with the Lord on Thursday, September 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born on August 28, 1949, in Churchville, Virginia to the late Everett and Anna Bell Simmons.Linda will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was one of the most kind and selfless individuals to ever live, and all who knew her were blessed by her thoughtfulness, smiles, and loving personality. The courage and bravery that she showed in recent months remains an inspiration to her family and close friends. On August 26, 1967, Linda married Ivan Diehl, her husband of fifty years, who survives. She was a devoted wife and mother as she spent her life caring for her family. Linda was an active member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fishersville. Throughout the years, she enjoyed sewing & cross-stitching, and she was known for her beautiful way with the written word. She enjoyed sending countless cards and letters to those dear to her heart. She loved the mountains, but nothing brought Linda more joy than time spent with her family.Linda endlessly loved her three children, Pastor Matthew A. Diehl and wife Heather of Mt. Jackson, Dawn D. Whitecotton and husband Winston of Staunton, and Desirae A. Diehl of Stuarts Draft. She was joyfully proud of her four grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Rebecca, and Leah Diehl. Linda is also survived by her sister Cathy (Scott) Campbell of Staunton, and brother Scott (Virginia) Simmons of Grottoes.A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, September 12, beginning at 11:00am at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Viktoria Parvin presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends at a visitation Monday, September 11 from 6-8pm at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory in Staunton.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Linda's name to either St. James Lutheran Church, 320 St. James Road, Fishersville, VA 22939 or to the , 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.The family is grateful to the staff in the TCV-ICU and CCU at UVA Medical Center for their kind and attentive care of Linda in recent weeks.Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.Condolences may be expressed to the family online at
