Army strong
Linden Ferrell Moore, known fondly as "Lenny," passed away on July 18, 2023, at the age of 73. He was born on May 29, 1950, in Leander, Texas. Lenny was a man of great character and bravery, whose life was filled with remarkable accomplishments and cherished connections.
Lenny is preceded in death by his parents, Elvin Franklin and Loyce Elene Moore, his stepfather, Pat Linebarger and his grandparents, William Luther and Elsie Owen, his uncle Delvin and wife Melba as well as his aunt Nita Hudson, who held a special place in his heart.
After graduating from McCallum High School in 1968, Lenny felt a strong call to serve his country, and he enlisted in the US Army. His dedication and bravery were evident during his service as Sergeant Moore in the Vietnam War, where he proudly served with the Blackhorse Regiment, 1st Squadron 11th Armored Cavalry Division.
Lenny was a storyteller, and he often shared memories of his time in Vietnam. He carried a deep sense of sorrow for the brothers he lost in war, and he remained connected with many of his fellow Blackhorse brothers throughout the years. His valor and heroism earned him three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars with valor. The second Bronze Star was awarded for his selfless actions on March 10, 1970, when he fearlessly put himself in the line of fire to protect his fellow Cavalry members by rescuing wounded soldiers during an enemy attack. On June 23, 1970, he received the Silver Star Medal of Honor for once again risking his life to save his wounded comrades from exploding tanks under heavy fire. Lenny's bravery and selflessness continue to inspire us all.
Upon returning home from the war, Lenny devoted his career to the University of Texas, where he formed a lasting friendship with Kevin Johnson. Yet, it was in the quiet moments at his homestead, the "Black Horse Ranch," where he found solace and joy. Hunting and fishing were his passions, and he loved spending time on the ranch with his loyal companion, Maggie, his beloved dog. We are certain his beloved Queeny May Moore greeted him, tail wagging in heaven.
Lenny's memory and kind heart will forever be cherished by his family. He was a beloved uncle to his fishing and hunting buddy, Shauna Moore-Hamby, and her husband Jamie of Round Rock. His grandnephews, Tyler and Trent, found inspiration in his footsteps, with Tyler carrying on the Army Strong tradition through his own Army career. Lenny's love also extended to Krystal Moore-Kriczky and her husband Chris of Hutto, and his grandnephew Carson and grandniece Kallie. He remained close to his ex-wife, Pat Hill Moore, of 25 years, and his grandchildren, Corey and Kyla, held a special place in his heart. Lenny's circle of family included his ex-sister-in-law, Shannon Moore Wiesner, and cousins Roger and Terry Owen. He is survived by his brother, Wayne Moore, who will continue to honor Lenny's legacy.
Throughout his life, Lenny found joy and companionship in hunting and fishing, shared with family Calvin Hudson, Mike Moore, Corey Moore, Bobby Moore, Roland "Bubba" Barker, and lifelong friends Kent and Scott Emerick. Together, they made cherished memories.
In honor of Lenny's service and his unwavering spirit, we say with pride, "Army Strong, Rangers lead the way! Go Army!"
As we bid farewell to Lenny, let us remember the indelible mark he left on our hearts, and may his legacy of courage, love, and camaraderie live on in our memories forever.
