On May 15th, 2023, Winchester, Virginia, United States lost a legend. Lindsay Ovryien, born December 10th, 1946, passed away after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Lindsay was the daughter of William and Rebecca Shakes, and was proud to have been raised by such incredible parents. She married her true love, Peter Ovryien, in 1969, and together they raised two beautiful children: Elizabeth (Libby) McClaire, who is married to John, and Larry Ovryien, who is married to Chelsea. Lindsay delighted in being a grandmother to four adored grandchildren whom she loved more than words could express.

She worked tirelessly as a history teacher and helped many students discover their passion for learning. In addition to her work as a teacher, she also dedicated her time and energy to the Homeless Shelter organization, where she made a profound impact in the lives of those in need.
Her loss is immeasurable, and the world will not be the same without her. She will be remembered always for her kind heart, her infectious smile, and her unwavering spirit. Her family and friends will treasure her memory and the lessons she taught us all.
