Lionel James Jensen, 75, of Rexburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at his home surrounded by family.Lionel was born on May 28, 1941, in Rexburg to Leland and Melba Jensen, the first of six children. He was followed by his siblings, Karen, Garth, Sheila, Sonja and Douglas.He was raised on the family farm in Burton and attended school at Burton Elementary, Madison Jr. High and graduated from Madison High School. Lionel met Cassie Lydia Holden while they both were attending Ricks College. They were married on Sept. 1, 1961, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. In his younger years he worked road construction and was a truck driver, but his passion was always on the farm. He farmed with his brothers, uncles and cousins up until 1998. Despite being born with only one hand there was very little that he could not do. He enjoyed golfing, baseball, fishing and hunting. In 2005, after discovering the magazine "Toys for Joy," he developed a love for building wood toys. He spent countless hours in his shop creating these meticulous works of art. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Lionel, and his parents, Leland and Melba Jensen.He is survived by his wife, Cassie; his four children, Jeff (Sindy) Jensen of Rexburg; Paula (Wayne) Wilcock of Fairview, Utah; Kellie (Craig) Murdock of Terreton; and Pam (Rod) Parkinson of Rexburg; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Garth (Gina) Jensen of Clayton, Indiana, and Douglas (Sundee) Jensen of Rexburg, and sisters, Karen (Don) Moedl of Bullhead City, Arizona; Sheila (Alan) Porter of Stansbury Park, Utah; and Sonja Moldenhauer of American Falls, Idaho. The family would like to give a special thanks to the sixth floor staff at EIRMC and to the many others that helped with his care.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Burton West Church, 3958 W. 2000 S., with Bishop Shawn Gee officiating. The family will receive friends at the Flamm Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5:30-7 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
