The memorial service for Lloyd D. Lowrie, 72, of Oronoco will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Riverpark Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with the Rev. David Mohler officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove with military graveside honors by Stewartville American Legion Post 164. Mr. Lowrie died on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, from complications of an illness with chronic heart disease at Mayo Clinic Hospital -Saint Mary's Campus. Lloyd David Lowrie was born on Sept. 12, 1944, in Stewartville to Byron and Irene (nee Sparrow) Lowrie. He grew up there and attended Stewartville High School. In 1964, he enlisted into the Army serving three years including duty overseas in Germany. After his discharge he returned to Minnesota. Lloyd was married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, to Margaretha "Margie" Karen Lang. The couple lived in Rochester for a few years before moving to Lake Zumbro in Oronoco where they raised their boys and have continued to make their home. Lloyd was employed with the Rochester Police Department shortly after his marriage. He attended Rochester Junior College and St. Marys College in Winona, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in law enforcement. He proudly served for more than 30 years with the department as a patrolman and supervisor, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant in 1999. Margie was employed for many years as a Registered Nurse at Mayo Clinic. Lloyd was a past member of the Presbyterian Church of Oronoco and Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota and was currently attending Zumbro Community Church in Zumbro Falls. He was a member of the Rochester Police Benevolent Association, served on the Union Cemetery Board and was a past member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Assn. He enjoyed boating, fishing, following the Vikings and the Gophers and was a handyman extraordinaire - he could fix anything! Lloyd also was an avid high school wrestling fan especially enjoying his sons' successes wrestling at state. He always enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, loved time spent with family and going with Margie to all the grandkid's sporting and school activities. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Margie, and his three sons, Bill and Justin both of Oronoco, and Chris (Angela) of Pine Island; six grandchildren, Colleen, Sam, Anna, Keagan, Sophia, Landon and great-grandson Leo; three sisters, Jean Nelson of rural Stewartville, Barbara Mathison and Kathryn (Paul) McAllister both of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Grace, his parents Byron and Irene Lowrie, his brother Don and three brothers-in-law, Roland Nelson, Jim Mathison and Jan Sackett. A time of visitation will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Riverpark Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester and one hour prior to the service at Riverpark Chapel on Tuesday morning.
