Lloyd HavelBondurantLloyd Gordon Havel, 87, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Parkridge Specialty Care Center in Pleasant Hill. He was born on April 2, 1929 in Winner, South Dakota to Frank and Katrina (Koenig) Havel. Lloyd proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He married Gayle Franz on December 29, 1958, and they were married for 54 years before she passed. Lloyd was a man of all trades. He worked as a barber for 30 years and owned two barber shops. He also worked for Target for 30 years. He owned several rental properties and enjoyed fixing up houses. He held a real estate license for many years. Lloyd loved buying and selling things and could always find the best deals.One of Lloyd's many passions was breeding and raising dogs. Over his lifetime he bred and raised many different breeds from Dobermans to Shih-Tzus, but his favorite dogs were his Yorkies. Lloyd had a great sense of humor and was always joking with family and friends. Family was very important to Lloyd and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Lloyd is survived by his children, Renae (Bob) VonStein and Greg Havel; grandchildren, Greg (Bertina) VonStein and Angela (Peter) McKernan; great-grandchildren, Jaiden VonStein, Colin VonStein, Grace McKernan, and Penelope McKernan; sister, Helen (Gene) Williamson; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle; parents; brothers, George Havel and James Havel; and daughter-in-law, Jan Stokstad. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines.
