Lloyd William WeinbergAsheville - Lloyd Weinberg, 70, of Asheville, NC passed away on October 6th, 2017. Today would have been his 71st birthday. Lloyd was born on November 11th, 1946 in Washington, DC to Abe and Evelyn Weinberg. He caught the music bug at the age of 7, and became an accomplished saxophone player by the time he was in high school. When he graduated in 1964, he enlisted in the Navy as a musician. After his service, Lloyd received a Master's degree in Music Education from the University of Maryland. Lloyd and family settled in Asheville in 1985 where he was well-known as a teacher, performer, volunteer, and community leader. He is survived by wife Karen, sons Ben and Joe, grandsons Noah (17) and Jack (4) and granddaughter Grace (1). In his last years, Lloyd (aka "Pop-Pop") doted over his adoring grandchildren and volunteered his time to the Veteran's Restoration Quarters, a local shelter for homeless veterans. Lloyd leaves behind a wealth of extended family members, dear friends, and former students. He will be sorely missed. Lloyd requested that, in lieu of flowers or other gifts, anyone who wants to honor his memory should give to the ABCCM Veterans Restoration Quarters to further his work. This can be done at
