Lois Jean MyersRed LionLois Jean Myers, 85, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Country Meadows-Leader Heights, with her family at her side. She was the wife of Dr. Donald E. Myers. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 17, 2017.She was born on October 9, 1932, the daughter of the late Rev. H. Earl and Anne (Fick) Miller.Lois graduated from Concordia University, Seward, NE in 1954 with a BS in Elementary Education. She taught grades 1-3 at St. John Elementary School in York for three years and then taught grade 1 at Gloria Dei School, Ambler, for four years while her husband attended medical school in Philadelphia. In York, she taught 1st grade at Lincoln Elementary School. She received a MA in Education from Millersville University in 1983 and a Reading Specialist Certificate. She was a Reading Specialist at the Dallastown Middle School until her retirement. Lois is survived by her husband, Dr. Donald E. Myers; two daughters, Christine D.
Smith and her husband, Daniel of Jericho, VT and Melisa "Lisa" B. Hartlaub of Red Lion. She also leaves a sister, Ruth Jannusch of Green Bay, WI; a brother, Theodore Miller and his wife, Maricia of St. Augustine, FL; a sister, Judith Miller of Valparaiso, IN, and a sister, Laura Miller of Cologne, Germany, plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, The Country Club of York, an honorary life member of the Susquehanna Yacht Club, and a member of the Yachting Club of America and the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club Association. Lois' journey through life included a childhood in India and a voyage to the U.S. at age 12. Her adventures and accomplishments were many, but more than anything Lois cherished being a mother. She was a sweet soul whose beautiful smile will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church, 2580 Mount Rose Ave., York, with the Rev. Tab E. Cosgrove, officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
