Lon J. Angermeier Sr., 62, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Yuma. He was born on July 15, 1947 in Minot, North Dakota. Lon spent four years serving in the
U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He received an AA degree in animal husbandry from Arizona Western College through the G.I. Bill. He was employed with the Yuma School District after his service to the military. He had retired from the Yuma Post Office in July of 2002. Lon has been a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church since 2001. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans, as well as a National Member of the American Postal Workers Union. Lon enjoyed raising chickens, desert tortoises, water turtles and birds. He LOVED his children and grandchildren and enjoyed giving advice to anyone whether they needed it or not. He loved to bake for his favorite elementary school, C.W. McGraw carnival. He was well known for his baby back ribs, green chili cheese enchiladas, and pineapple upside down cake. Lon is survived by his wife, Chris; son's, Frank (Dawn) Angermeier, and Lon Angermeier Jr.; step-son's, Gabriel Duran, and Daniel Duran; step-daughter, Samantha Duran; grandaughter's, Jade Griner, Lauren Angermeier, Alexis Duran, Margarita Duran, and Miranda Duran; grandson's, Ethan and Aidan Griner, Joshua Angermeier, Dennis Duran, Gabriel Duran Jr., and Robert Duran; nephew, Steven Jones; niece, Kassandra Yanez; mother, Eleanor Thompson; brother, Jared Angermeier of Fort Riley, Kansas; sister's, Pat Wicker, Sylvia Van Etten, Mary Holland, and Elisa Beal. Lon was preceded in death by his father, Harry Angermeier; sister, Sharry Guertin; grandson, Corey Angermeier; brother's-in-law, Rick Guertin and Michael Yanez; parents-in-law, Ray and Ofelia Yanez; step-daughter, Stephanie Duran; A visitation will be held at Yuma Mortuary on Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A mass will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Frank Angermeier, Lon Angermeier Jr., Joshua Angermeier, Steven Jones, Jade Griner, and Herman Burton. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Guertin, John Guerrero Sr., Jared Angermeier, Nick Duran, Robert Yanez, Gabriel Duran, Daniel Duran, Angel Bedoya, and all our Madison Avenue neighbors.
