Lorene Boeschen BackerBENSON - Lorene Boeschen Backer, 94, of Benson passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Good Samaritan Home in Flanagan. She was born on March 2, 1922, in Benson, IL, to Chris and Catherine Arends Kolb. She married Melvin Boeschen on June 2, 1946, in Benson, IL. He passed away on November 23, 1993. She later married Elmer Backer on January 11, 1997, in Benson, IL. He passed away on December 8, 2000.Surviving are two sons, James (Terzah) Boeschen and Gary Boeschen; one daughter, Jane (Dennis) Jones; two grandchildren, Jason (Kate) Jones and Jaime (Adam) Schneider; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Delmar (Joan) Kolb.She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Velda Warnke and Delores Hinrichs; and a daughter-in-law, Becky Boeschen.She owned and operated Lorene's Beauty Shop in Benson for over 50 years. She was a member of the Benson American Legion Auxiliary Post #454 and the St. Peter Ladies Aid and loved flowers and enjoyed making arrangements for others.She sponsored and was a member of Lorene's Bowling Team, who were past champions of the Peoria Journal Star Women's Bowling Tournament.She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 4. The Rev. Gabriel Baumgardner will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to the services at the church.
