Loretta Ann Pennington, born Loretta Ann Scotia passed from this life on September 15, 2023 at the age of 80 after surviving a stroke and battling lung cancer.
She was born on October 25, 1942 in Pennsylvania. She graduated college with a Bachelor's degree in 1964 and taught high school Home Economics and English until she married Emil Perencevic and her own children were born.
She raised her children, Sonny born in 1965, and Lorrie Jean born in 1969, and following a divorce was re-married to Delbert Pennington in New Castle, Pennsylvania in the early 1970's. She moved with her family to Seattle in 1978 and entered the professional world of accounting. Eventually, she gained a position on the administrative staff of Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, Wa, where she was a valuable member until she retired in 2012. Her input was invaluable in implementing the computer system linking hospital records that is crucial for patient care in hospitals today.
Loretta enjoyed gardening and always had potted flowers at her door and an aloe plant in her kitchen for cooking burns. For many years, she never missed Lorrie Jean's dance performances and was always in the stands cheering on her granddaughter Samantha when she competed in gymnastics. Her adopted dog Sammie was a joy to her, as were a few cats who found a loving home with her over the years. She passed quiet time coloring beautiful pictures and reading...reading was always a passion of hers, and both of her children benefitted from being able to read well before entering kindergarten, due to her passion for this skill! She was present at political rallies when need for policy change touched her heart, and her courage inspired others to pick up their own torch. Her gentleness in helping her own sister Jeannie pass her final days at her home with family will never be forgotten by those of us who shared those days and were held up by her strength in the face of grief. Never has there been a stronger woman more committed to getting the job done and easing the way for younger women coming along. Loretta was a torch-bearer, a woman of courage and endless fortitude.
Loretta is survived by her daughter Lorrie Jean and son-in-law Tony, her sister Tracy and brother-in-law Bill, niece and nephew Drew and Megan, brother Steve, niece and nephew Arenda and Steve and their spouses and children, nephew Aaron, granddaughter Samantha and her husband James, great- grandchildren Cody, Calen, Kallie, and Isabella, granddaughter Natanya and her partner Rob, and many, many more loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Delbert (1997), her son Sonny (2022), her sister Jeannie (2015), and her grandson Thomas (2006).
In memory of Loretta, donations to breast cancer and stroke research are suggested.
"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Loretta embodied this purpose and more, to the benefit of so many!
