Loretta "Larry" Price ZeiglerSeptember 15, 2017Loretta "Larry" Price Zeigler passed away on September 15, 2017. She was born on September 18, 1934 to Walter and Velma (Ford) Price. She was their fourth child and had two sister and one brother.She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1952 and married Richard Zeigler that same year. They were very happily married and devoted to each other for 65 years. She graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1963 from Ball State University and received her M.S./Reading Specialist degree a few years later. She began teaching second grade at Redkey Elementary and at Walter Reed Elementary School in Hartford City, and then taught first grade at Pennville Elementary until she became a reading specialist for the Jay School Corporation in 1971. She served also as Director of Elementary Education for the Jay School Corporation until 1979. Following that, she continued her love for elementary teacher and staff development by working for Ball State University, Indiana University, and the Houghton-Mifflin Book Company. Her last educational venture was when she served on the board of directors of the Zion Early Learning Center and was instrumental in its founding and implementation. The preschool at Zion Lutheran, Portland, was near and dear to her heart and was the perfect display of her love of children and learning.Larry was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church and her faith was the foundation for her life. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Hartford City, IN and was a very active member later at Zoin Lutheran in Portland, IN, singing in the choir, serving on various boards and teaching several groups. She and her husband were also associate members of St. Peter Lutheran in Fort Myers Beach, FL. She loved to cook, and her desserts- especially her pies- were quite sought-after and well-received by all. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and she, along with her husband and family, went to St. Louis whenever possible. She was also a loyal IU basketball fan and enjoyed playing card games of all types.She will be greatly missed for her beautiful smile and the love she showed to her family and friends. Her love and devotion for her family will always be cherished. She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" or Albany and Fort Myers Beach, two daughters, Cindy (Murray) Mendenhall of Fort Wayne, Marianne (Dennis) Horn of Portland, four granddaughters, Brianne (Phil) Hueber, Erika (Ryan) Frantz, Emily (Chad) Threewits and Ashlea (John) Stone and eight great-grandchildren: Grace, Gavin, Wes, Molly, Lexie, Vivie, Evelyn, and JJ. She is also survived by one sister, Betty (Don) Marker of Dayton, OH and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Kay (Joe) Bonham and one brother, Charles (Sandy) Price.Her family would like to convey our deepest appreciationto all her doctors, but most especially, Dr. Stephen Myran or Portland. She received wonderful and loving care from her doctors and nurses in both Indianapolis and in Florida and also from the Visiting Nurse Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.Her memorial service will be held at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 218 East High Street, Portland, Indiana on Saturday, September 23 at 1:00 P.M. A time of gathering will be held at the church following the service until 4:30 p.m. A service or interment will be held at the Peace Garden at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Myers Beach at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to: St. Peter Evangelical Church, Zion Early Learning Center (Portland, IN), Moffitt Cancer center in Tampa, and Visiting Nurse Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN. www.klaehnfahlmelton.com
