HarlowAge: 86 • StauntonLorraine Ruth (Gilbert) Coffman Harlow, 86, wife of Harold Vernon Harlow formerly of Red Oaks Drive, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 in the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville. Mrs. Harlow was born on July 20, 1930 in Augusta County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Simon Jefferson and Eva Mae (Harlow) Gilbert. Lorraine was a very active member of Cherryvale United Methodist Church where she served on the United Methodist Women's committee, was a past financial secretary, and a member of the Simon Gilbert Sunday School Class. Mrs. Harlow was the manager of Wagner Hearing Aid Center for 25 years and a board certified Hearing Aid Specialist, and she was a charter member of the Quota Club of Staunton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harlow was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Beard "Hank" Coffman; three brothers, Dr. Fulton J. Gilbert, Earl Kenneth Gilbert, and Dr. Lowell H. Gilbert; two sisters, Eleanor Gilbert VanGilder and Rhoda (Gilbert) York. Surviving in addition to her husband of 30 years, are two step-daughters, Lewana Richardson and her husband Gregory of Roanoke, and Martha Fitzgerald and her husband Tony of Lakeland, Florida; two brothers, Dr. Edward W. Gilbert and his wife Argie of North Pointe, Florida, and Marcus C. Gilbert and his wife Dorothy of Waynesboro; a sister, Carleton Harper and her husband Duane M. of Staunton; a grandson, Tine Gregory Richardson; a godson, Chuck Whisman; a goddaughter, Lori Caldwell; her caregiver, Judy Swann; a special friend, Helen Steele; a special nephew, Wayne Harper who helped carry out Lorraine's final wishes; and a number of nieces and nephews, "whom she adored," also survive. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 in the Cherryvale United Methodist Church by Rev. Clayton Payne and Rev. Fulton David Gilbert. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric Wagner, Bruce Wagner, Mike Mayo, Jay Locklear, John Johnson, Steve White, Steve Chambers and George Blankenship. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Howard and the Simon Gilbert Sunday School Class. It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Cherryvale United Methodist Church, 709 Cherry Hill Drive, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
