Lorraine P. TaylorCove, Utah - Our mother, and grandmother, Lorraine Povey Taylor, of Cove, Utah, passed away peacefully September 12, 2014 at Sunrise Park Assisted Living in Lewiston, Utah following a brief illness.Lorraine, the oldest of six children was born on June 13, 1924 in Weston, Idaho to Arthur and Martha Fredrickson Povey. Her dad was a farmer and had wanted his first child to be a boy, but when Lorraine came along she became his helper. At the age of twelve she hoed, thinned, and topped beets. She also worked in the hay by tromping the wagonloads of hay, and then she drove the derrick horse to unload the hay wagons. She also helped irrigate the row crops. She learned to work hard but also had fun, and enjoyed life on the farm.Lorraine graduated from Clifton High School in 1941 and attended Idaho State University for a few months until the beginning of World War II.On June 29, 1942, she married Donald L. Taylor and moved to the Taylor family ranch in Stockton, Idaho. In 1944, Don was drafted into the army. They had one eighteen-month old toddler and were expecting their second child, so Lorraine and her son moved back to Clifton to live with her parents. Don got home from basic training just in time to take Lorraine home from the hospital after the birth of their second son. He was home ten days before reporting to Fort Ord to embark for the Philippines. After the war, Don and Lorraine lived in Clifton for two more years. In 1949 they bought a home in Preston, Idaho. During the school year, they lived in Preston and returned to Stockton during the summer months. In 1957, they sold the ranch, the home in Preston, and bought the farm in Cove where she has resided until the last 4 1/2 months when, because of her illness, she moved into Sunrise Park.Lorraine was an excellent seamstress. She started making her own dresses in high school and continued to sew her own clothes and those of her children throughout the years. She will always be famous for her delicious sourdough pancakes and homemade chokecherry syrup. In 1972, Lorraine went to work in Preston at First Bank and Trust. It was work she enjoyed and she made many friends. She retired in 1986. In 1982, Don and Lorraine purchased a vacation home in Spencer, Idaho. They had many good times at Spencer, riding their ATV's over the forest country in the summer and their snowmobiles in the winter.Lorraine has been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served as Relief Society President, Primary President, and many other callings throughout her life. Even though her husband passed away in 2005 and her eyesight created many physical limitations for her, she maintained a positive attitude and was an inspiration to everyone she associated with. She never complained and truly loved the simple things of life.Lorraine's oldest son, D. Brent (Cindy) Taylor, preceded her in death in 2012. She is survived by her two other sons, Lynn W. Taylor, Athol, Idaho; Curtis G. (Mary) Taylor, Heber City, Utah; and her daughter, Darlene (Jon) White, Cove, Utah; 17 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.She is also survived by her sisters, Carma (Sylvan) Morgan, Pocatello, Idaho; Dorothy (Zed) Griffiths, Ovid, Idaho; sister-in-laws, Eloise Povey, American Falls, Idaho; Lorraine Povey, Clifton, Idaho; and one brother, Eldon (Barbara) Povey, St. George, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and brothers Grant and Leonard. We would like to say thank you to family and friends who gave of their time to visit with mother. We express our thanks and gratitude to the management and staff at Sunrise Park for the loving help and concern they showed to our mother and to us. The residents, also, at Sunrise Park became special friends. Rocky Mountain Hospice made the last of her mortal journey comfortable, we thank them, also, for their compassion and care.Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, at 12:00 noon in the Cove LDS Church, 12832 North 1200 East, Cove, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10:00-11:30am. Funeral services are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Richmond Cemetery.
