SHELBY- Lossie "Miss Bootie" Leach Hambrick, 80, of 418 Antrum St., Shelby, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017. She was born on May 18, 1936, in Cleveland County, as the youngest daughter of the late Mary Bell Leach and Lucious Kennedy. Lossie was a graduate of Compac High School in Kings Mountain, where she was an outstanding basketball player. Her employment through the years included nine years at Cleveland Memorial Hospital, Reliance Electric (now Baldor) for 11 years before retiring as a private duty C.N.A. Always an outgoing and active person, Lossie was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 30 years and was involved in various organizations which included the W.M.U., the Sarah Black and Annie Jones Missionary Groups, kitchen committee president and the nursing committee. Outside of church, she was a member of the Shelby Negro Woman's Club where she served as a reporter, hospitality committee member and chairperson of the music and art committees. Her passion though was cooking and feeding anybody and everybody who passed by her door, including many who were homeless. Besides her outgoing spirit, Lossie will be remembered for her kindheartedness, her outspokenness, her love for flower gardening and not to mention her flair for fashion and sense of style. She loved being a fashionista and sporting her hats.She also loved the Lord and her children dearly.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hambrick; a son, Gary Whitener; a daughter, Renee Hambrick; and her brothers, John Henry Leach and Ray Leach.She leaves to cherish her precious memory, four children, Ronald Whitener (Gladys) of Milford, Virginia, Stephanie Harvey (Carl) of Columbus, Georgia, Mary Robinson (Charles) and Carmela White (Darryl), both of Shelby; three grandchildren, Latasha Leach, Rodney Porter and Stanley Whitworth; 10 great-grandchildren; a special nephew and niece, Jackie Alexander and Clothlida Hill (Jeffrey); special family friends, Betty Wofford (Terry), Joe Green and Robert Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating. Burial will take place at Shiloh AME Zion Church in Grover. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, and at other times at the home of her daughter, 904-B Linney Lane Shelby. Online condolences may be expressed at www.enloemortuary.com.
