Louie E. Meyer, 92, passed away on November 6, 2007 in Ellensburg, WA. after a short illness. He was born on July 28, 1915 in Harlowton, MT, to Fred and Annie (Koeppe) Meyer. He was the first born of 5 children. The family moved to Sisseton, SD around 1918 and Louie graduated from Sisseton High School in 1936. Shortly after graduation, he and a buddy traveled by freight car heading to Spokane, WA looking for work. They fell asleep and missed the Spokane stop, ended up in Ellensburg, where they jumped off the train and Louie spent the next 10 years doing various ranch hand jobs. In 1946 he returned to Sisseton and worked at Thelin Cleaners until 1961 when he came back to Ellensburg. He once again worked as a ranch hand, loving the farming, irrigating, plowing, and haying. He worked for Fred Adams, Sam Kayser, Stuart Anderson, Dick Crowder, and Bob and Connie Dunnington. Louie was an active member of First Lutheran Church and sang in their choir for over 44 years. He was very musically talented and in his younger years played the violin, fiddle, and accordion at many community and grange hall dances. He served as Past Master of the Manastash Grange and was an active member of the Manastash and Pomona Granges for many years. He was a Past Worthy President and life member of the Grand Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sisseton, SD. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Annie Meyer; his brother, Herbert Meyer; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is survived by brothers, Wilfred (Butch) (wife Ruth) Meyer of Sisseton, SD, and Elroy (wife Grace) Meyer of Ellensburg; sisters, Lucille Thelin of Sisseton, SD and Bernice Rolstad of Minneapolis, MN; 15 nieces and nephews, 26 great nieces and nephews, 12 great great nieces, and many cousins. Inurnment will be at the Ellensburg IOOF Columbarium with graveside services at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2007. A Memorial Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church. Memorials may be sent to the First Lutheran Church Choir Fund at 512 North Ruby, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
