We mourn the loss of Louise Cousins, who was known by many names, Miss Lou, Adel and by so many as Teacher, a beloved soul who graced this world from March 21st, 1928, to September 18, 2023. Born in St. Mary, Jamaica, she was the first child of Theophilus and Lucy Levene, her siblings include, Edna (deceased), Maisie (Deceased), Dorothy (Deceased), Dudley (Deceased), Hugh, and Myra.
Louise spent most of her life in the small village of Retreat, St. Mary, Jamaica, building a strong and loving family with her husband, Sutcliffe. Together, they raised three wonderful children who brought immense joy to their lives. Oliver (Junior), Garfield (Wayne), and Peter were the greatest blessings in Louise's life.
Louise embraced her role as a mother to all her children, including her step-children, Pauline, Tony, and Janet (Pinky).
She devoted her energy to ensuring her children's happiness and success. With unwavering love, she guided them through life's challenges, imparting invaluable lessons. Her grown children carry her gentle spirit and cherish the memories they shared.
As a grandmother, Louise found pure delight in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their laughter and innocent wonder brought her immense joy. She treasured them all and adored showering them with love and spoiling them with affection.
Professionally, Louise dedicated her career to education as a teacher. She believed education had the power to transform lives and inspire future generations. Countless students were fortunate to have Louise as their guide, mentor, and friend throughout their educational journeys.
After losing her husband Sutcliffe, in 1982 and retiring from teaching, Louise emigrated to Toronto in March of 1984 where she began a new life of service.
Louise will be remembered for so many things, but most of all as "Teacher". So many people call her teacher, a passion that was guided by her faith as well as her kind and nurturing spirit. She had an uncanny ability to comfort and uplift those around her, always offering a listening ear and a compassionate heart. Louise's smile radiated warmth, and her presence could light up any room.
During her final moments, surrounded by loved ones, Louise peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Though her physical presence may no longer be with us, her memory will forever remain etched in our hearts.
Farewell, dear Louise. Your spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us of the enduring power of love. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
