AUBURN — Lowell D. Deem, age 81, of Auburn passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at DeKalb Health in Auburn. Mr. Deem was born on August 28, 1935 in Whitley County to David and Velma (Geiger) Deem. He married Sandra Kemery on November 2, 1996 in Auburn. She resides in Auburn. Mr. Deem honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for General Tool and Dye in Columbia City for 5 years and then worked for General Electric in Fort Wayne for 37 years retiring in 2000. Mr. Deem was a member of the Auburn Church of the Nazarene. He was a founding member of the Whitley County EMS. He served as an emergency medical technician volunteer for years. He was also a volunteer at the Whitley County Hospital and the Columbia Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the General Electric Fire Department for 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Deem of Auburn; a daughter Beth Ann Bowditch of Fort Wayne; a son, Darrin Deem of Auburn; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Tammie and Loyd LaLone of LaGrange; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jeffery and Darla Kemery of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Barnick and Jerry Barnick. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Ricky and Valerie Kemery, a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ida Mae Deem, and a great-grandson, Caeden Johnson Hess. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Auburn Church of the Nazarene, 2301 N. Main St., Auburn. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Doug Thomas. Burial will be in Eel River Cemetery in Churubusco. Memorials may be directed to the DeKalb Humane Society and the Auburn Church of the Nazarene.
