Luc R. Chagnon, centenarian, 100, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Villa Crest Nursing Home in Manchester.Mr. Chagnon was born on October 26, 1916, in St. Majorique, Quebec, the son of the late Rosario and Vitaline (Leclaire) Chagnon. He was a resident of Manchester since 1962, moving from Canada. Growing up, Mr. Chagnon worked on his family's farm. Later he was employed in the construction industry as well as owning and managing several rental properties throughout the area. Mr. Chagnon found great comfort and strength through his belief in the Catholic faith. Members of his family include his three sons, Lucien and his wife, Marthe, Marcel Chagnon, Charles Chagnon and his longtime companion, Andrea; his three daughters, Aline Bibeau and her husband, Claude, Helene Gagne and her husband, Florent, Rollande Rousselle and her husband Paul; and he will be missed by his extended large family, 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Chagnon was predeceased by his wife, Alice H. (Duff) Chagnon, and by a son, Pierre Chagnon. He will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont Street, in Manchester. Committal prayers followed by encryptment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Manchester.The Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements.
