BIDDEFORD - Lucien R. Caouette, 95, of Biddeford, died on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.
He was born on May 30, 1921, to Andre Albert Roger and Amanda (Couture) Caouette in Gorham, New Hampshire.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. It was during this time that he met Renee Clemence Jourdain, off the shores of Omaha Beach. He was honorable discharged from the Army on Jan. 15, 1945, in Marseille, France. They were married two months later on March 16, 1945, in Digosville, France. Ever since then he has been completely devoted to Renee and the two have been inseparable.
Lucien worked as an auto and aircraft mechanic as well as a "parts guy." During World War II, he worked as stock record clerk for the 350th Ordinance Depot Company. As a civilian, he worked for City Square Auto Parts for years, and Carquest Auto Parts. Retired at the age of 80, he loved and enjoyed his home and home life. He was fiercely independent and proud to still be driving at the age of 95.
He is preceeded in death by: one son, Jules Leo Caouette; two grandchildren, Andre Caouette, Jr. and June Renee Caouette; three sisters; and his brother.
Lucien is survived by: his loving wife of 71 years, Renee Caouette of Biddeford; a son, Andre Caouette and his wife, Marilyn, of West Kennebunk; a daughter, Jeanne M. Breton and her husband, Robert, of San Francisco, California; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be celebrated in the spring at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Springvale, ME 04083. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
