Lucia "Lucy" Estela Angulo, 60, passed away on the evening of November 7, 2021. She was surrounded by her son, Arturo Perez, her mother, Marina Mejia, her Priest, Fr. Settimo, and other dear family members and friends.
Lucy was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on December 21, 1960, but she grew up in and Caracas, Venezuela, from her early childhood until her early 30's. Caracas gave her so much joy, especially thanks to the group of life-long friends she met at the building, "Residencias Union”. Her dear "Grupo Union" was with her in spirit to the very last day.
Lucy married at a young at age 20 and soon the great joy of her life, Arturo was born. Lucy dedicated the rest of her life to the well being and education of her “hijito”, her son and shining star.
Ever since she was a little girl, Lucy had learned to take care of herself. From Venezuela she moved to Colombia and then to Los Angeles. Over the years, she built an impressive resume, working in industries like defense, banking, cruising, and, ultimately, fashion (1994). Her fashion jobs took her to live in Boston, Madison, WI, and Los Angeles, and throughout the world. Lucy mentored many people throughout her career who are now successful executives in their own right.
She loved to work and she was highly appreciated. Her last job was Vice President of Operations at Aether Apparel. She was masterful at balancing the needs of design, cost, and production in making and bringing a garment to market.
Lucy lived with her mother throughout most of her life by supporting and caring for her. The love she felt for her family was unbounded.
Lucy was incredibly generous. She financially helped her siblings, nieces, and nephews on countless occasions, especially in ensuring their education. She financially and emotionally backed Arturo when he wanted to start his own business. She supported her Society of St. Pius X priests (SSPX), especially her dear Fr. DeMeyer, and her local church community. She treated her colleagues, friends and, in fact, everyone around her as if they were part of her immediate family. She had no material attachments, her joy was in giving to and loving others. Because of these two exemplary traits, Lucy Angulo made an indelible impression on everyone with whom she came in contact—she really did.
In addition, throughout her life, Lucy searched for God with a great focus. She was a passionate and loving woman who ultimately realized that nothing in life matters without God.
In her years in Wisconsin, her son told her about the SSPX, a Roman Catholic group that focuses on maintaining the Traditions of the Catholic Church and whose mission is dedicated to the forming of priests who practice the Roman Catholic Faith the way it had been for the past 2,000 years.
Lucy loved the SSPX with all her being. In her last years, she dedicated herself to living a holy life, foregoing the worldly pleasures of TV, music, and any secular entertainment. She became Third Order SSPX which is the closest Lucy came to her dream (in retrospect) of being a nun.
In late 2020, she moved to Sanford, Florida, for the sole reason of being close to a strong, growing and thriving SSPX community. She moved minutes away from Church and dedicated every extra moment of her life to praying, by learning more about her faith through discussion and the reading of books, and by participating in her parish community.
In late 2021, she suddenly started to feel very ill, and eventually she was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. Although Lucy had already overcome one fatal disease in her life (she lost her colon in the early 2000’s to ulcerative colitis), the cancer had spread thoughout her body which made her condition terminal.
She suffered greatly in the last three months of her life, to which she answered, “It’s all perfect”, as she was conscious that this was Jesus’ will. She told Arturo, “all I can do is to give my will entirely to Him. The rest is beyond me.”
Lucy died entirely dedicated to God, her family, and her loved ones. She had received necessary Sacraments and became a living testimony of what it is like to live a Catholic Christian life.
Please consider donating to St. Thomas More Parish in her honor. This will make her smile wider than any flowers or material things, her knowing that the donations will be for the benefit of souls about whom she cared so deeply.
