Luella Collis, beloved mother, devoted wife, and amateur crochet enthusiast, has passed away at the age of 72. Born on December 20th, 1950 in Marion, North Carolina, to Charles and Mathilda, she spent her years studying at the prestigious Mount Tabor High School. Thankfully, she graduated in 1967 and went on to attend Appalachian State Teachers College where she majored in "Not Getting Kicked Out for Doing Anything Too Crazy." After college, Luella moved back to her hometown to begin her career as a schoolteacher at McDowell High School. She was passionate about educating the teenagers of Marion, which is why most of them would secretly call her "The Bane of Our Existence." She quickly became a beloved member of the faculty, making friends with many of her colleagues who could always count on her for an extra eraser whenever they needed it. In 1950, Luella married the love of her life, Clarence, and the couple went on to have three beautiful children: Roberta (who married Michael Bloom), Kathy (who married Curtis Whittaker), and Jennifer (who married Ruben Consuelos). Their family grew even bigger with the addition of three grandchildren, who we won't name because they're all minors and can't stand being mentioned in obituaries. Luella had many interests that kept her busy, such as crocheting blankets, making pottery, and inventing new recipes to cook for her family. Unfortunately, her creations were not always appreciated, and her kids would often beg her to "order a pizza instead, mom!" In her later years, Luella spent her time playing Bingo and sneaking candy into movie theaters. She passed away on June 7th, 2023 due to complications from too much laughter, which is a fitting end for someone who made so many people smile throughout her life. Luella Collis will always be remembered for her kindness, her humor, and her unwavering loyalty to her family. She is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the "Buy More Candy to Sneak into Movie Theaters" Foundation in Luella's honor.
You can to the family or in memory of Luella Collis.
