Luella V. MathewsSeptember 11, 1918 - February 6, 2017LebanonLuella V. Mathews, 98, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, February 6, 2017. Luella, known to many as "Gigi", passed peacefully while surrounded by family at Cedar Haven Nursing Home. Luella was born on September 11, 1918 in Lebanon. A devout Christian from her early years, Luella joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon, when she was just 17. In conjunction with the church, Luella established and directed the first Cherub Choir. No child was left without a graham cracker and a smile if they entered her classroom on a Sunday morning, where she taught bible stories to children ages 2-4. She was also the den mother for Cub Scout Pack 8 and member of the LAA Playground Association. It can be said that Luella's greatest joys in life included spending time with her grandchildren, indulging in coffee ice cream, playing BINGO with close friends from Washington Arms, and admiring anything and everything that had to do with tigers -- Luella's favorite animal. Luella will be remembered for all she did for her church, her community, and her family. Surviving are her children, Edward Mathews Jr., husband of Sandy, and Sandy White, wife of Walter; grandchildren, Jack Heagy Jr. and Sherrie L. Davis (Heagy); great-grandchildren, Tiffany Miller, David Davis, Brittany Klinger, Kris Mease, Julie Girton, and Carrie Wenzler, and many great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, 17042. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 723 Lehman St., Lebanon, PA 17046.
