Fr. Louis "Luke" Turon, O.P.Formerly of Zanesville: Fr. Louis "Luke" Turon, O.P. - 92, of Columbus, formerly of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and the Dominican Community in Zanesville, OH, died at 4:35 PM Sunday, November 24, 2013 (The Feast of Christ the King), at Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus. Fr. Luke was born on June 4, 1921 in Old Forge, PA to John and Olympia (Gallia) Turon and is survived by his aunt Ellen Tomassoni of Endwell, NY and several cousins.Fr. Luke was a medical doctor, receiving his degree from Case -Western and served as a doctor in the US Army in Japan with the army of occupation after World War II. After leaving the army, Fr. Luke was accepted into the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans) as a novice, took solemn vows on August 16, 1949 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 1955 at the age of 34. Fr. Luke was then assigned as a priest and doctor to the foreign mission in Pakistan where he served faithfully for 45 years.In 2000, Fr. Luke returned home to the United States where he served the people of God, the Church, and the Dominican Order at St. Thomas Aquinas in Zanesville, OH.Due to health reasons, Fr. Luke was assigned to Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus in June of this year, where he passed away peacefully while praying the Rosary.Following being received into St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Fr. Luke will lie in state from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 29, 2013, where Vespers will be recited at 5:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 9:00 AM, Saturday, November 30 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 North Fifth Street, Zanesville with Fr. Jordan Turano, O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Somerset with John Tague Post 188 American Legion conducting Full Military Honors.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bishop Fenwick Scholarship Fund, 139 North 5th, Zanesville, OH 43701; The Dominican Foundation (for the education and support of Dominican brothers studying for the priesthood), 141 E. 65th Street, New York, NY 10065; or the Catholic Medical Mission Board, 10 West 17th Street, New York, NY 10011.
