A Time to be Born
Lular “Lu” Corder Williams Eddings was born on April 8, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Willie C. Corder and Dorothy Corder Smith then later Jasper Smith welcomed her as his loving daughter. She was the eldest of 19 siblings.
As a young girl, Lu graduated from Druid High School and continued her education at Stillman College for two years. She later completed her formal education with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
A Time to Love
Lu met, fell in love, and married Michael Eddings, on September 25, 2001. This union brought forth a blended family of five wonderful children, Mayaka, Kwamin, Erica, Ashley, and Aryn.
A Time to Live
Her life’s works were centered around service to others. Lu worked as the Director of Social/Cultural Arts for Northcroft, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the Director of the Hrabe Center for inner city students, also in Milwaukee. She served as a Director at the Indian Rivers Mental Health Center here in Tuscaloosa. She was also the Director at Maranatha Child Development Center, Tuscaloosa. Lu worked as the Assistant Director of two group homes at REM Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado. She retired as a home school teacher after moving to Corpus Christy, TX in 2010 and finally moving back to Tuscaloosa in 2015.
In addition to a successful career, she served in ministry as Church Secretary for First African Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend T.Y. Rogers. She served as the Secretary of the Tuscaloosa SCOPE Project where she received training in Dorchester, GA under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She furthered her love for ministry by becoming a licensed Medical Missionary and Bible Worker for the South Central Conference of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nashville, TN.
Throughout out her life, she worked tirelessly, serving the Lord, as a Sabbath school teacher and a Sabbath School Superintendent.
A Time to Mourn
Lular “Lu” Corder Williams Eddings transitioned on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at her residence in Tuscaloosa, AL surrounded by her family. Lu’s four brothers: Willie C. Corder Jr., Nathaniel Corder, Donald Corder, Gregory Corder, grandmothers: Lula Jones and Catherine Horton, grandfathers: Robert Jones and Charlie White and nieces: Yemanja Coats, and Najuma Marshall also proceeded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband Michael Eddings, five children, Mayaka Williams, Kwamin Huff (Idalia), Erica Eddings, Ashley Eddings, Aryn Shelton (Ralph). Thirteen Grandchildren, Makis Harris, Kwamin, Kala, Kissa, Kya, Keera, Kiona, Kenyan, and Khari Huff. Jace, Ralph, Blake, Shelton, and Maverick Evans. She leaves the following siblings, Dorothy Jean Wells (Sam), Bettye Cook(Gary), Ronald Corder, Michael Corder, Stephen Nash, Tracey Corder Daniel Corder, Barbara Britton, Gwenevere Hurst (Scott), Gwendolyn Chambers, Jackie White (Hayes), Anthony Smith, Roger Smith (Charlene), Irene Smith and Patrick Smith (Esther). Her in-laws Mary P. Long-mother, Patrica Ross and Barbara Moore-Chearis(Early)-sisters, Jesse Moore(Darlene) and Christopher Moore(Vermell) brothers and a host of nephews and nieces.
