Lydia BognerMANSFIELD: Lydia Bogner, 96, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home. She was born on September 20, 1920, to George and Theresia (Grauer) Bogner in Mansfield where she resided all of her life. Lydia retired from Mansfield General Hospital in 1978, where she had been the Director of the Medical Records Department for 28 years, having received her Medical Record Degree from Marymount Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.Lydia was among the pioneers in the development of penicillin as she was one of the first civilians to receive penicillin treatment for a life-threatening illness in October of 1943, according to the Eli Lily Company and Boston University, three years before it went on the public market. This was considered to be a milestone in Richland County history.Lydia was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church on Middle-Bellville Road. She was a former member of the American Association of Medical Records Librarian and of FORUMS of MedCentral Hospital.Besides her parents, Lydia was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: Teresa and Edward Beer; George Jr., and Jane Bogner; Fred and Esther Bogner; Jack and Aileen Bogner; Joseph and Rosemary Bogner; and Frank and Ann Bogner; one niece, Joan Smith; and nephews Kenneth Bogner, Ronald Beer, and David Beer. Surviving are many dear nieces and nephews: Delores and Paul Getz, of Florida; Fred and Mary Bogner, of Dayton; Carole Tinsley, of South Carolina; Bonnie Jo Murphy, of Rhode Island; Rex and Evelyn Bogner, of Ashland; Don and Sherry Bogner, Linda Bogner, and Gary and Diane Bogner, all of Colorado; and many grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield conducted by Eric Weingartner. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice.
