Lyle Wells, age 64, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017, in a motorcycle accident near Hatch, New Mexico.Lyle was born on February 23, 1953, in New Rockford, North Dakota. In his youth he was a Boy Scout, raced horses, played the trumpet, and ran track. At age 19 he joined the
United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, and later he joined the United States
Army and trained as a medic in Portsmouth, Virginia, San Antonio, and San Francisco. Eventually he returned to North Dakota and became a Registered Nurse at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, where he met the love of his life, Julie. He remained dedicated to the military by serving in the Army Reserves, and was deployed to the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm with the 311th Evac Hospital. Lyle and his wife, Julie, retired to Las Cruces to enjoy the warm weather, friendly people, and closer proximity to their children.Lyle was an avid Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider, and loved the open road second only to his family. He was an active member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club and participated in many events to benefit POW/MIA and veterans groups. He also enjoyed studying history and collecting historical memorabilia.Lyle was preceded in death by his father, Delmer Wells and granddaughter, Sophia. He is survived by his wife, Julie; his mother, Lorraine; his son, Jase (Michael), his daughter, Crista Swenson (Mike Miller); his son, Jason Streed (Paola); his sister-in-law, Susie Reed; his five grandchildren, Landry Swenson, Payton Miller, Xaiden Miller, Mischa Streed, and Jayden Streed; his cat, Chico; his sister, Kathy (Jerry) Goter; and his brother, Denis (Sharon).A military ceremony will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
