WINFIELD-King, Mabel Ione (Hesket) 86, passed away December 31st, 2015 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 6th at the Shelley Memorial Chapel in Winfield. A visitation will be held at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield from 1:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 5th. With family greeting friends from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Memorial funds have been established in Mabel's name with the Kansas Veterans Home and the First Baptist Church of Winfield. Contribution may be left in care of the funeral home. Mabel was born on October 26th, 1929 to George Wayne and Velma Leona (Condit) Hesket south of Oxford, KS. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1947. She married C. Raymond "Scotty" King on December 10th, 1954. Following high school, she started her chosen profession of bookkeeping at Fennema's Dairy. She then owned and operated the Veteran's Cab Company with her husband Scotty from their home. After selling the cab company, Mabel worked at Pierce's book store for many years and then worked for Butler Brothers until her retirement. She volunteered many hours at the Kansas Veterans Home and for the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary where she served as the treasurer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Wm. Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the 8 and 40, the Kansas Parliamentarians Assoc., and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. While her health allowed, she also enjoyed bowling. She is survived by her children: Pam, Wayne, Tom and wife Diane, and Rex and friend Melody Vaden, all of Winfield. Her grandchildren: Brandon, Scott, Lindsey, Patrick, Vincent, and Tyson King, Hanna Mayo, Rochelle Nichols, and step-grandchildren, Chelsea Dao, and Lindsay and Josh Cunningham, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 step-great grandchildren. Sisters: Doris Smith of Enid, OK, Betty Arnold of Wichita, KS and Lois Cusick of Coloma, WI. She is also survived by many friends and relatives and her caregivers at the Kansas Veterans Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband C. Raymond "Scotty" King, a great grandchild, Everett Charles King, and a brother, Donald V. Hesket.
