Mabel Jean Blanche MILLER July 26, 1954 - October 1, 2017 Jean passed away in Victoria BC on Sunday, October 1st, after a recurrence of ovarian cancer. Jean was born on July 26, 1954 in Winchester, Ontario to her beloved parents Ethel Blanche Miller (nee MacDonald) and Rev. Dr. Fred Miller. She is predeceased by her parents and by her brother, George. Her loss is deeply mourned by her spouse, Suzanne, by her brothers David (Bea) and James (Sherry), by her six nephews, and by her loving in-laws and dear friends.Jean spent a happy childhood in Owen Sound, Ontario. As a young woman, she travelled Ireland and the UK with a knapsack on her back, and then returned to Canada, majored in Political Science at McMaster University, and graduated with her BA in 1978. Not long after, true to her sense of adventure and optimism, she left Owen Sound and made her way west to Calgary, Alberta. She landed a position with the City of Calgary, becoming an Assessor, and eventually a Coordinator. She was an extremely competent and dedicated civil servant. The proudest moments of her career came when she was able to help members of her staff advance within the organization. With her talent for successful negotiation, Jean completed a Certificate in Conflict Resolution and volunteered as a mediator for Alberta Small Claims Court. The community work most important to her, though, was with seniors in her neighbourhood. She always found time for shovelling walks, running errands, and having a visit. She continued to volunteer with seniors at Glengarry Hospital when she and Suzanne retired and moved to Victoria in 2012.Jean was happiest in the great outdoors, pursuing her life long passions of fly-fishing and gardening. She treasured her friends and had a way of seeing the very best in people. Those who knew her light, her joy, her tremendous generosity of spirit will miss her beyond measure. Our sincere gratitude for the compassionate care at RJH Oncology. No service by request.
