Porter, MabelMabel I. Porter, age 86, New London, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 26, 2016, from complications of a traffic accident. She was born on January 26, 1930, in Neenah daughter of the late Lyle C. and Daisy (Briggs) Gibson. On October 1, 1949, she was united in marriage to Paul Porter. Mabel was a dedicated member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, New London, and South Greenville Grange for 50 years. She was a farm wife and also worked outside the home for 21 years as office supervisor at Neenah Foundry; 3 years at American Can and from 1974 until her retirement in 1992 as a buyer at Boldt Construction. Mabel is survived by her daughters, Mavis (Jim) Knaack and Julie Porter; son Tom Porter; a sister Joyce Pingel; brother Wayne Gibson; grandchildren: Michelle Knaack (John Omeara), Andrew (Beth) Knaack; Tamara Porter (Nick Ernst); Haily Porter; great-grandchildren, Eben and Macy Knaack and Tensley Ernst.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, sister Shirley Jenks, sisters in-law, Ruth Gibson, Doris Porter, Pat Porter; brothers in-law, Rhynold Pingel, Lorch Jenks, Clifton Porter and Ben Porter.Funeral services for Mabel will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.The family would like to thank our pastor Greg Watling, who was her true spiritual guide, the doctors and ICU nurses at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton who took care of Mom during her last week.She will be dearly missed by her family and friends at her church, the Grange, apartment building and her sheepshead card party pals.Besides her loving personality and companionship we will miss Mabel's chocolate chip cookies, Spanish hamburger and her Christmas fudge.
