Mahlon Carl ShunkwilerAge: 92 • StauntonMahlon Carl Shunkwiler, 92, widower of Louise Marie (Lessley) Shunkwiler, a resident of Brookdale Senior Living for the past five years, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his residence.Mr. Shunkwiler was born on December 10, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son of Mahlon F. and Alma (Little) Shunkwiler.Mr. Shunkwiler was a member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church and was retired from Montgomery Ward as a furniture buyer. Mr. Shunkwiler was a proud veteran of the United States
Army, serving during
WWII in the Medical Corp. Mahlon was passionate about woodworking and he would often share his gift of craftsmanship with his family, church and friends. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing. Mr. Shunkwiler was the last surviving member of his immediate family.Surviving are three sons, Carl G. Shunkwiler and his wife Elizabeth of Wetumpka, AL., Larry M. Shunkwiler and his wife Kathy of Baltimore, MD and Robert M. Shunkwiler and his wife Susan of Westminster, MD.; a daughter, Deidre "Dee" Shumaker and her husband Larry of Falling Waters, WV; eight grandchildren, Michele Leggett, Jennifer Fogle, Laura Cagle, Brian Shunkwiler, Stefanie Stagg, Justin Shunkwiler, Victoria Jones and Rebecca Shunkwiler; and ten great-grandchildren also survive.The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. H.
